Is it dead? Where is everyone going? I miss my daily reading!
Yesterday was Mother's Day, so it was off to Mom's for a picnic lunch/dinner. I sliced up a long English cucumber and an herb sauce. The sauce tated good in small quantities, but en masse on the cucumbers it was awful. I'll spare you the details.
To replace that I made a comfort food for myself. Saukraut and peas. I know it sounds ten kinds of wrong, but it's delicious to me.
Today started with a "mochacano" (Americano with chocolate) and a blueberry, banana, acai, apple, orange smoothie. I've jumped off the phase 1 thing. I'm really flakey in my eating latley..and I guess I'm okay with it. My intention is always to put the most nourishing, healthful food into myself in reasonable quantities. I've never had luck with other people's plans, so I'll just stick with my own again.
My hormones have been CRAZY lately. So much so that I did an at home test to be sure I wasn't carrying anything. *lol*. I sooo don't want to be a mommy, and take care to make sure I don't end up one, but I'm not sure what's up with my cycle. I think this imbalance, whatever it is, is seriously affecting my moods though, so I'm focusing on making myself accomplish things..like cleaning out the garage and fixing up the yard. The end result will be a feeling of accomplishment, a tidier living environment, and a happier me/Joel.
Yay!
So I decided instead of a cleanse to finally try out the Rainbow Green Live Foods eating plan. So I'm starting Phase 1 today. (info here: Rainbow Green Live Food Phases Chart)
So today I made my sprouted lentils into this salad:
Sprouted Green Lentils
cucumbers (with their skins left on!)
tomatoes
apple cider vinegar
LOTS of fresh mint
LOTS of flat-leaf parsley
LOTS of chives
salt
It's *great*! :) I was intending to make this specific salad even before I read up on the phase chart again. I was discussing my amazing success on the raw diet in the beginning with Joel and realized that these were the kinds of foods I was eating at that time. My typical dinner my first month of raw was a big bowl of tomatoes with fresh herbs, apple cider vinegar, lemon, or lime, with a touch of olive oil, salt and pepper. Lunch was typically a big salad with baby greens, romaine, sprouts, a touch of carrot and a bunch of tomatoes. The main change that I'll be making won't be the sweetener (raw agave wasn't available in stores at this point!) but the Nama Shoyu. I *love* Nama Shoyu. But I'll be fine without it. Miso too.
For dinner I'll be having some more of this Lentil Tabbouleh and a big green leafy salad with apple cider vinaigrette. I'm excited for this new change! :D
Jumped off the wagon again..some odd hormonal things happening. It's really terribly obvious that I need to be 100% raw or I'll sway more toward 0% raw. So tomorrow it's 100%. Basically the Rainbow Green Live Food plan, phase 1. I'm thinking a nice cleanse is in order.
I spent the day on a car trip with my parents, sister, and "nephew" (cousin's son) to the Tulip fields in Mount Vernon, WA. It was a soggy, rainy, muddy event, but we had fun anyhow! Several times I slipped and nearly fell, catching my balance at the last moment. I think it would have been better to fall, as I'm REALLY sore in the ankles and knees today! Tulips seem to like to grow in 100% clay, and the farmer don't mind because they have cleats, but man were the rest of us a muddy mess!
We stopped for lunch at a Mexican place. I ate a cooked vegan burrito, which was tasty. I decided to enjoy it as part of my family outing, and I did. Lots.
But boy, did it wipe me out! The corn chips likely didn't help much! So I got home around 4 and passed out..until 4 this morning (the 4th) when I woke happy and chipper. Craziness!
So I'll post some new photos in a couple of hours..along with a recipe for a sprouted green lentil tabbouleh that Joel and I have been enjoying this morning. Well, the lentil aren't really sprouted yet. I'll wait for the rest of the lentil to sprout and then make a new batch to post photos of. I don't feel bad posting it, though we do make one at the cafe, it's a different version. :)
Live "Rice" and "Bean" Burritos with Salsa Fresca
Tortilla: Romaine leaves
Rice: Jicama and salt
Beans: Sunflower Seeds, miso, chilis, cumin, salt, lime
Salsa: Tomatoes, onion, garlic, lemon, salt, cilantro
Add ins: more cilantro, sprouts, mango, cucumber, olives
So tasty! :D
I made these for dinner!
Today my sleep is crazy! I laid down for a "little nap" and slept from 8pm until 1am!
Back on the horse!
Today Joel and I are headed out on my favorite of all raw day trips from Seattle, to Port Townsend, WA. There we visit The Food Co-op where they have daily live food options in their deli-case. Just a couple, and usually my two favorites: a sprouted lentil salad (like tabbouleh), and a kale and mushrooms dish. I love them so much I typically buy them out. Not because I couldn't make the same thing myself..but because I don't have to!
We also stop at two shops: Phoenix Rising a wonderful metaphysical book store, with crystals and clothing, and other magical things, and a fun little shop with a fun selection of unique socks. My adoration of socks is increasing by the day, and it's this shop's fault. (I'm jealous of the sock store opening in Portland. I want to go, BADLY!)
To finish up our trip we also stop on the beach to walk and play. I spend some time cleaning up any trash I find as well..you know, to give back! :)
So..off we go! :D
Yay for my new Vitamix, Merlin! Joel named him. We've made smoothies (they're actually smooth!) and soup so far. Delicious!
Today we ordered a small pizza and split it, with the idea that we'll do something along these lines (small!) once a month, if we feel like it. The trade off was a huge green smoothie for me and a huge fruit smoothie for him, in order to balance out the more difficult the digest food. I feel good about this choice! :)
I keep forgetting to blog my food! *blush* Tomorrow my new Vitamix 5200 arrives, so I'll be more excited about food again! :)
Today I had 2 of my typical salads (romaine, tomatoes, sprouts, cabbage, broccoli, and lemon tahini dressing), a "spring herbs" salad mix with an apple cider vinaigrette, and sunny hummus stuffed peppers. For dessert I had vanilla chia pudding with "Raw POWER" and agave. I'm a little squeamish about what it will do to my digestion..so we'll see tomorrow.
Yay for a new Vitamix and the ability to make SMOOTH green smoothies! :)
B - 2 quarts of water (very thirsty today!)
S - Iced soy latte and 1/2 cup of Joel's kale, strawberry, mango, banana green smoothie
L - blended salad (savory green smoothie) of head of romaine, 1/2 pint baby tomatoes, lemon and lime juice, cilantro, red baby bells with just a touch of Nama Shoyu, because I'm still dependent on salt (for now!)
S - mango and cucumber with lime tahini dressing for dipping

Joel and I have decided to start up with green smoothies to increase our alkalinity. Our old Vitamix (the 3600 Plus+ model) is dying, and doesn't get all of the greens completely broken down. We've been reluctant in the past to replace it because of the plastic containers on the more modern VitaMixes. We were happy to find out that Vitamix has put out a new model with a poly container and an upgraded motor, so we bought it! It will be here in 2 weeks, and we'll *certainly* get our $517 worth out of it in health! We're comparing that price to the two months of health insurance premiums that we can avoid.
